Photo of the Day — Day 218
The Rotunda is for many the heart and soul of the University of Virginia’s campus, known as the Grounds to the lucky few who have attended Mr. Jefferson’s University. It sits at the head of the Lawn, the part of the campus that was the Academical Village, which constituted the original University. Legions of photographers have captured images of the Rotunda, and I posted one of the Rotunda dressed up in holiday lights a while back; in general, though, I’m not a huge fan of the classic Rotunda shot, which has been so overdone as to become a cliche of sorts.
Today’s photos of the day, the last in this series of UVa photos, nibble around the edges of that august architectural icon. I did include one photo that might smack a bit of cliche, a shot of the famed columns that limn the outlines of Mr. Jefferson’s UVa, but I have also tried to stray a bit from the beaten path.

you know you go to a nerdy school when some bio labs double as the fine arts classrooms.
